It was a highlight of the 2008 and 2009 Christmas Musical Cavalcades to give cheques totalling £5000 to Emma Cartledge on the City Hall stage. Emma, who is recovering from a brain tumour, received excellent treatment at the Sheffield Children's Hospital and as a way of thanking them, she has set about raising valuable funds for the Hospital. The photo shows Emma receiving a cheque from Keith. We hope to see her at many future concerts.
So far, Emma has helped to raise over £16,000 for Sheffield Children's Hospital and has been awarded with Rotherham Young Entrepreneur 2009, Ambassador of Rotherham and Yorkshire (Youngster) Young Achiever of the Year 2009. She was also nominated for Rotherham Young Achiever 2010 by her teachers. She is a brave young lady and we all wish her well and hope for a total recovery.
Derek Dooley, who played for Sheffield Wednesday F.C. in the 1950s, injured his right leg in a football match at Preston North End F.C. which tragically resulted in the leg having to be amputated. Derek was well know across the city, having been the manager at Sheffield Wednesday F.C., Chief Executive and Chairman for Sheffield United F.C. and a regular attender at Fellowship concerts. Sadly, he passed away on 5th March 2008 and in recognition of his work in the city, Tony Barrington, a close frind of Derek, formed the Derek Dooley (MBE) Football Academy to give opportunities for amputees and physically disabled people to train and play football. Fellowship helped establish the Academy with a donation of £5000 in January, 2009. Sylvia Dooley, Derek's widow, continues to attend Fellowship concerts and the photo shows Sylvia with some of the amputee footballers.
During 2010, donations were made to a number of charities. These include £3000 to the Adolescent Rheumatology Service at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital to help teenage sufferers, £1000 to the Lord Mayor's Charity Fund in support of the Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice and Weston Park Hospital, £1000 to the Haven in Romania to help Care of the Elderly and Children with Educational Needs in Romania, £500 for Help for Heroes, £500 for Ranmoor Parish Church, £500 for St. Luke's Church, Lodge Moor and £250 for Greaves House Farm Trust.
